Character Profile:

PERSONALITY: Alec is a very hard working, conscientious person with a meticulous eye for detail, some would even call him anal. He's the sort of guy that would pour his heart and soul into anything he does and would beat himself up if he got it wrong, he is in fact his own worst enemy. He obsesses and will over-think practically everything if he's allowed to, which means he needs a lot of distraction to keep himself busy. He has a habit of getting lost in his head and it would take a determined person to drag him out of his thoughts and it could come across as rude if somebody was not aware of this behaviour.

Alec strives to get what he wants and pushes himself to be the best because anything less than the best is unacceptable, it's what his parents have always told him. They had been successful in their own lives/careers and wanted the same for their only son, he was supposed to be somebody, even if it cost him everything.

He is also a very physical person: plays a lot of sports and takes out a lot of his frustrations on things like boxing, rock climbing, white water rafting and various other forms of adrenaline fuelled activities. Given his career as a doctor and caring for the sick Alec feels the need to live life to the fullest, embracing every moment like it might be his last. As previously mentioned Alec needs to be kept busy so he's prone to habits such as making stupid noises and fidgeting if he hasn't got anything to entertain himself with. He's awful at waiting and tries his best to curb this even though it tends to come out when he's in lines more often than not in foul language.

Cynical probably best explains Alec's approach to religion but he's the last person to put down anyone else's beliefs because he's seen a lot of people cling to it for their last lifeline and hope, he would never want to diminish that. Sometimes it's helped and sometimes it hasn't, Alec prefers to put his faith in the actual reality of life and what he can do as a doctor.

It's difficult for Alec to not care, he empathises with people and frequently finds himself in the position of trying to help. It means he's been hurt a lot in his life, wears his heart on his sleeve and frequently finds that the gesture isn't always repaid. He expresses his emotions and doesn't care if it's inappropriate to say what he really thinks, he believes in being honest and upfront, even if he holds back on a few things.

Alec is also comfortable enough that he doesn't need to worry himself with monetary concerns, meaning he has a lot more freedom to be able to express himself and live his life the way that he wants to. I suppose you could say he's looking for a purpose and a way to help people that are clearly in need of it. He's quite selfless in terms of what he gives, feels that the end result is reward enough for him.

He is quite sociable, likes human contact and prefers spending his time in the company of others. He finds it easier to listen than talk but he is capable of holding a conversation without a problem, he has good social skills and knows how to apply them when he wants or needs to. He can be the life of the party if even enough provocation to do so, meaning he's usually always invited out to social gatherings and people tend to like him even if he doesn't always have the time to go out.

Alec is somewhat sarcastic and a little bit of a smartass especially with authorative figures which is why he had trouble during his younger years with both his father and teachers. Alec lacks a guard between brain and mouth and sometimes things come out when he doesn't mean them to so he gets into a lot more hot water if he would just learn how to shut up.

HISTORY: Alec was born into a successful family of a lawyer and doctor, both very busy people with very little time to raise a child. This of course meant that Alec spent much of his early formative years in boarding schools except on school holidays when he would come home and be shown off to his parents friends.

He was a big comic geek when he was younger, reading issue after issue and playing out various scenarios that his superheroes had enacted over colourful spreads of paper. He quite frequently hurt himself trying to do the impossible and always spoke of how one day he was going to save the world and be like the characters he loved so much in the comic books. His parents indulged him, figuring it was easier to let their son play out his fantasies than try and point out the reality of the situation. Little did they know but this passive approach would later cause problems for them.

When Alec was six he saved a bird that his parents had thought was dead only for his touch to rejuvenate and kill it a few seconds later. Alec got very excited, thinking he had somehow tapped into a secret power he had never known he had and this escalated quickly until his parents had no other choice but to send their son to a child therapist in the hopes of righting his delusions. The therapist was quick to diagnose Alec with a behaviour common to young children with busy parents, he was merely 'acting out' and 'seeking attention'. It was during some very long and time consuming therapy sessions with the therapist that Alec was convinced that he had no special power and it was all in his head. So strong was this belief that over time his ability to access and tap into his "power" became vastly reduced and therefore never manifested again.

He was brought up to believe that success was everything and throughout his childhood and teenage years he strived to be perfect: to be the good son, the good student and the better athlete. Alec wanted nothing more than a little recognition from his parents, he wanted to make them proud and let them have a son they would be pleased to have.

As he got older Alec did well in his schools and made friends, never lacking in company. He was always able to hold down relationships and more often than not was the one left out in the cold by significant others through faults of his own. Some of his exes have said he was too focused on his career, never made time for them and was always quite frequently never on time for dates and seemed to forget important dates such as anniversaries. He never paid them enough attention and subsequently they looked elsewhere for somebody to satisfy their needs. He had a taste of music at one of his schools and thanks to his parents privilege he was able to indulge his love, meaning he became quite gifted at playing both the guitar and piano. Not that he ever did anything with this gift, even if he wanted to.

It was more important to build a career and do something prestigious.

It was during his high school years that Alec decided that eventually he would like to follow in his father's footsteps by becoming a doctor, only a different kind of doctor. He put this forward to his parents and teachers and soon he was taking the advanced classes such as: biology, chemistry, math and physics. He was also advised at the time he should take part in some sort of drama class to build his communication skills, which he did as well. And thanks to his father he was able to study psychology, making easier for him to learn the connection between the mind and body. He also attended a lot of summer study schools during this time as well.

Given that he had an idea of what he would like to do with his life his parents allowed him to remain at home and attend a more local school, which meant Alec was able to put in volunteer hours at the hospital in order to get more comfortable in the setting he would one day like to work within.

After graduating from high school Alec went onto college where he majored in pre-med for 2 years, working towards his goal of becoming a doctor; an internist to be more exact so that he could specialise in internal medicine with a sub-speciality for critical care medicine (a branch of medicine concerned with the provision of life support or organ support systems in patients who are critically ill and who usually require intensive monitoring). After graduating college Alec then applied to medical school where he spent a further 4 years studying and learning, putting in as much hard work as was needed to pass the National Medical Board exams.

It was after this that Alec went on to complete a 3 year residency training at a hospital, working with specialists to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions. It was vital he complete this 3 year training to get hands-on experience of treating patients in hospitals and becoming familiar with the setting and what was to come when he eventually became certified. Given his choice of sub-speciality it took Alec a further 3 years to complete a fellowship in the critical care medicine, meaning it took him a grand total of 12 years to become fully licensed in his chosen field.

Working within medicine has been quite a lonely life for Alec given the ridiculous hours he has needed to put in and the dedication he has shown to his goal in life but he's hoping that his recent transfer to Chicago will be exactly what he needs to form social bonds and friendships.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Alec has a very special touch (even if he doesn't really believe that) he can heal with his right hand and he can harm with his left hand. This was discovered fairly early on when he picked up a dead bird with his right hand and feeling its plight as his own he seemed to bring it back to life only for it to pass away as he held it with his other hand. Alec obsessed over this when he was younger due to his belief in superheroes and drove his parents to the brink of insanity, given that they were both frustrated and worried about their son's unhealthy fixation with this "fictional power" and it wasn't long until he was seeing a child therapist who later put him through several sessions of intensive therapy to convince him that what happened that day meant nothing and that he wasn't special. Alec heard it enough for his brain to believe it and it's been very much mind over matter ever since. The power became latent and has not come out through an accident as the power itself is linked to Alec's emotion and the fact he has convinced himself it was nothing.

There are advantages and disadvantages to having this ability:

*The disadvantages are various and numerous: he tires quickly, takes on the disease he is trying to heal and has to expand a lot of energy expelling it from his body, has trouble controlling the depth he goes to in order to repair and heal damaged cells which means he could die in the process.

*The advantages are as follows: he can save people, perform what some would refer to as 'miracles' and defend himself by inflicting pain on people if he wanted to.

The touch itself is very empathic, it comes from Alec being able to pick up on emotions and resonate with them until something inside of himself stirs and the touch is activated. Basically Alec has to feel something for the touch to actually work. The touch itself is dormant but it's likely to come back at an unexpected time.

STRENGTHS: Flair for musical instruments such as the guitar and piano. Sole minded determination. Good social skills. Open. Honest. Empathic. Very hard working and driven. Friendly and willing to talk to people.

WEAKNESSES: Works too hard at times. Speaks without thinking at times. Impatient. Sarcastic. Gets very lost in his head. Uses foul language when he gets bored of waiting. Gets very involved with his patients so feels their loss quite strongly. Suffocated by his parents expectations of him. Doesn't like small spaces. Unaccustomed to being alone given that he spent a lot of his time in boarding school surrounded by people.

#GMC: Moved to Chicago as per a transfer and is looking to continue and pursue his medical career as well as make friends.

However, I do not own the concepts around the Buffy fandom because that belongs to Joss Whedon and all credit to him, I am making no money out of this. Also? Before you ask? I am not Jensen Ackles, I am simply using him to represent my character. Many thanks.
